Becoming a newly-qualified Solicitor is an incredibly exciting time and the culmination of years of study and hard work.

If you are in the position of having to find a new role at the point of qualification, whether that’s because you have made the conscious decision to leave your current firm on qualification, or because your firm is unable to keep you on beyond qualification (or unable to offer you a role involving the area of law you wish to specialise in), we can assist you in making the first move of your career.

Considering a move to a new firm only a number of weeks or months before you qualify might feel strange. All of a sudden, you find yourself within 6 months (or less) from the end of your training contract and you are faced with the task of finding a new role with a new firm and, indeed, making that move, all within the space of a few weeks.

The key is not to panic and to carefully choose a handful of agencies to work with so that you remain in control of the process. The temptation (and we see it every year) is to register with a multitude of agencies – please resist! We understand that as time moves on, friends who are Trainees (or indeed, fellow Trainees) secure NQ roles at other firms and you begin to fear that you will not land something before you qualify. However, if you lose control of the process, you will find that this increases the chances of multiple applications being made to the same firm or firms and this can harm, rather than enhance, your chances with those particular firms.
